Airlines

There are three airlines which fly to Northern Cyprus. These airlines provide regular daily flights, via Turkey to Ercan. Read more about North Cyprus Airlines.

AIRPORTS
Northern Cyprus has two international airports. The larger of the two is Ercan near Lefkosa (Nicosia), the other is Geçitkale near Famagusta.

Boats (Ferries)

There are regular ferry services from Kyrenia and Famagusta to towns on the Southern coast of Turkey, namely Mersin, Antalya and Tasucu. From Mersin, it is possible to sail to Syria, Lebanon and Israel.

There are yacht mooring facilities in Kyrenia and Famagusta.

PORTS
The main industrial port in Northern Cyprus is in Famagusta and Kyrenia.

BUS TOURS
Some hotels organize their own tours of the island. If your hotel does not do so and you wish to join a tour you may contact with your hotel reception who will put you in touch with a tour company.

HITCH-HIKING
This form of travel is popular with the young and is generally not thought to be dangerous in any way

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
A good inexpensive network of buses and mini-buses operates between all the main towns, in addition there are Dolmush (shared taxis) operating on the same routes. Taxis are widely available carry a meter. However, there are standard journey charges as well.

TRAFFIC INFORMATION
Please drive on the left. Traffic and road signs are international. Maximum speed is 100 km/hr. Vehicles entering Northern Cyprus must be insured upon arrival. Seat belts must be worn. Drivers are prohibited to drive under the influence of alcohol. The limit is 50 mgr on private cars and 0 mgr on rental cars.

Passports and Visas
All foreign country passports are recognized at the entrance checkpoints of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Greek Cypriots, Greeks from Greece and citizens of Armenia should have visa. Visa applications can be done to T.R.N.C. foreign representatives for the Nations that mentioned above. If any citizen of a country that mentioned above is married to a TRNC citizen, the need of a visa is evaluated in a different manner and could be more elastic. But this special condition is determined after the application to the foreign representation of TRNC. On the other hand, it is possible for the people from different nations (except the ones mentioned above) who enter Turkey, to enter TRNC freely as a tourist or with a tourist group. The same procedure is carried out to passengers who travel separately. Separate passengers have to have enough amount of cash, returning ticket and reservation to a TRNC Hotel (proving that the purpose of travel is tourism) Under these circumstances it is impossible to have a problem during the entrance of TRNC. When entering TRNC the period of the visa given is determined by the immigration police officer. After entering TRNC and if you have valid justifications you can apply to prolong for visa to ministry of interior.

Customs Regulations

1. Customs regulations while entering and leaving TRNC Customs regulations shows similarity with the developed European countries customs regulations in methodic and basic. Any person who comes to TRNC in a certain place, time, and way, anything that he or she carries on himself or herself in anything that he or she carries in the luggage ;

a) Anything that was bought outside of TRNC or
b) Any good that has commercial value tax unpaid or tax refunded and
c) Anything or good that could not be carried before its tax paid; has to be declared due the custom regulations. Any person who enters or leaves TRNC has to answer any question of the official clerk about his or her luggage or anything that is carried on her or himself. At the same time the passengers has to show any good in his or her luggage or anything that he or she carries on himself or herself to the official clerk in a certain place, time that the official clerk shows. But if the passenger asks that he or she wants to be examined in a special place examination can be carried out in a special place. According to customs regulations if any person who refuses to give information and refuses to show and declare the goods that he or she carries or keeps them in his or her luggage commits law. Any good that depends on customs tax or any other tax if not declared of hidden and found by the officials during the examination time or goods that are prohibited or restricted to import and export could be kept by customs as a punishment

2. While entering or leaving TRNC the amount of money that a passenger can carry freely: Passengers while entering or living TRNC may carry maximum 10,000 USD or equivalent in other currency.

3. While entering country, duty free rights of the passengers are as follows:

Alcoholic drinks 150 cc
Wine 150cc
Perfume and lotions 100 cl
Non commercial goods 75 $ worth free Over 75 $ taxable
Personal Belonging Depends on passenger's social condition. 4-Regulations for entering TRNC by a motor vehicle While entering TRNC in last 2 years the person who stayed and lived abroad more than 365 days and comes to TRNC temporarily and is over 18 years old age (staying in TRNC should not be more than 12 months) is considers as visitors. Persons that did not stay abroad this much could be consider as visitors if they declare and show all the documents proving that they live outside of the country. While entering these people has to declare the cars documents and has to make 3 months valid car insurance. 5-Other important points Customs offices make examination while entering or leaving TRNC plus they carry out other regulations of all different ministries during their examinations. -Before export controls permissions is needed from various offices so before coming to export ports all formalities has to be completed.

Health Regulations for Animals

1. Any kind of animal admission to the country needs preliminary permission.
2. The veterinary office of the ministry of agriculture and forests gives preliminary permission.
3. The conditions of preliminary permission depend on the species of the animal. These conditions are told to animal owners by the veterinary office.
4. According the law that is in force now the quarantine period depends on the species and the origin country of the animal.
5. Carrying animals to the guarantee place and keeping them there is paid by the animal owner.
6. Any kind of food that contains animal and biological products needs preliminary permission to be imported if they are brought by the passenger on himself.

Formalities for Private Yacht Owners

Entering formalities to Kyrenia Marina for yacht owners:
-Getting in touch before entering marine
-After casting anchor passengers have to go on the immigration and customs procedure.
-If there is any animal or a pet in the Yacht, Veterinary office personnel has to be called in order to start quarantine procedure.

Technical Rules:
-Minimum fee is applied 7 meters
-Longer than 20 meters (L.O.A) ship -Yacht fees.

-Fees are paid at TRNC central Banks effective buying rate on the day of payment
-The fees tar rife of Marina Director ship can change under some circumstances
-The ships that have TRNC flag have %10 reduction for binding fee.
-%10 service fee is included in the prices.

Formalities for Private Plane Owners

ICAO (International Aviation) rules valid. Arrival to TRNC international route is followed. Preliminary flight and landing permission should be gotten from the officials.
Technical information for the plane, number of passengers has to be declared during the time of permission application. There is no validity of staying. On the information about civilian aviation and ERCAN Government Airport can be obtained from civilian aviation directorship.
